Linking and Deep Links

Link tasks and projects from notes, copy task links and IDs, open tasks from other apps with octarine://task, and use tasks with Ask Octarine.

Linking From Notes

Type [[ in a note to link a task or project the same way you link a note:

  • A plain search shows a few matching tasks and projects alongside notes.
  • Start with tasks: to list only tasks, or project: to list only projects.

A task link appears as a compact chip with the task's status icon and ID, struck through once the task is closed. Hover over it to see the title, due date, status, priority, and project, and click it to open the task.

A project link appears as the project's pill. Click it to open the project, or Cmd/Ctrl-click to open it in a new tab.

In the Markdown file, these links are written with the internal ID, so they keep working when a task moves project or a project changes key:

Follow up in [[tasks:xwpfw1g0od32d8f5l33cbw8b]].
Part of [[project:s1uzltudzqggus7lbvpv8esb]].

You don't need to type these yourself. Use the [[ menu, or Copy as wikilink from a task's … menu or right-click menu, then paste. The CLI's task show also returns the link as reference.

Convert to Task in the bubble menu inserts a task link in place of the text it turned into a task.

From a task's … menu, its right-click menu, or the Command Bar:

ActionCopies
Copy as wikilink[[tasks:<id>]], for pasting into a note
Copy linkAn octarine://task deep link, for other apps
Copy IDThe task's ID, such as WEB-24

With several tasks selected, these become Copy as wikilinks, Copy links, and Copy IDs.

Open a task from another app, a script, or a link in a document with the octarine://task action:

octarine://task?id=WEB-24
octarine://task?id=WEB-24&workspace=Work
ParameterRequiredDescription
idYesThe task's ID, such as WEB-24, or its internal ID
workspaceNoWorkspace name. Defaults to the current workspace.

The task opens in a new tab. The action supports x-callback-url parameters. See the URI Scheme reference.

Using Tasks With Ask Octarine

Ask Octarine can read and update your tasks:

  • With a task or project open, click Add current task as context or Add current project as context above the prompt box.
  • Type @ to add projects, filters, or individual tasks as context.
  • Ask it to list, summarize, create, or update tasks. Creating or changing tasks needs your approval, like other workspace changes.

Tasks in an answer appear as live, clickable items, and projects appear as chips. See Ask Octarine.

Using Tasks From The Command Line

The Octarine CLI can list, create, update, and comment on tasks, so coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex can track their work in Octarine and mention task IDs in commit messages.

Yes. Use Copy link to get an octarine://task?id=WEB-24 link, or build one yourself.
