Ask a question across your entire workspace. Octarine searches, reads, and connects the relevant notes before giving you an answer you can trace back to its sources.
It does the reading first
With a tool-capable model, Ask Octarine works like a small research agent. It searches your notes, reads the relevant ones, follows backlinks and wikilinks, inspects tags, and lists folders before it answers.

Nothing is attached by surprise
Opening Ask Octarine does not attach the note you are viewing. Add it with one click when you want it.
Keep private notes out
Ignored notes and folders are never indexed or suggested. The list lives in a plain .octarineignore file at the workspace root.
Send a passage from the editor
Select text and choose Add to Ask Octarine in the Bubble Menu. The selection joins your chat draft as a snapshot.
It asks before it writes
Ask Octarine can create notes and folders, replace a note’s content, and move notes or folders. Before the first write in a turn, it pauses and shows you exactly what it wants to change.
- Allow or Reject, per turn
- Your decision applies only to that turn. Read-only research never needs approval, and ignored or hidden paths stay out of reach.
- Undo for 30 days
- Completed writes show Undo or Undo all, and you can ask Ask Octarine to list or undo recent changes.
- Newer edits are protected
- An undo fails if the file has changed since the Agent wrote it, so your later work is never overwritten.

Teach it how you like to work
Skills are reusable instructions you attach to a request. Write a house style, a research structure, or a review lens once, then mention it when a prompt needs it.
Skills guide how, mentions say what
Pick a skill from the Skills section of the @ menu. It applies to that prompt only, so you can switch modes inside the same conversation.
Bring skills you already have
Import SKILL.md files from Cursor, Claude, Codex, OpenCode, and shared .agents folders. Each import is a Markdown copy in .octarine/skills.
Answers from beyond your notes
Connect Linear, GitHub, Notion, or any remote MCP server, then choose under Sources which ones Ask Octarine can call in this workspace.
Rich results, not tables
Linear issues are grouped by status with priority, labels, and assignee. Pull requests show state, labels, and diff size.
Set up once per device
Integrations work in every workspace. Credentials stay in Octarine’s app data folder, never in your workspace.
Read by default
The Linear and GitHub presets are read-only, and returned content is treated as reference data, not instructions.
Your models, your layout
Use a cloud API key, a CLI account, or a local model. Keep the chat floating, docked beside the editor, or open in its own tab.
Floating, sidebar, or tab
Move a conversation between views without starting a new chat. As a tab, it can sit in a split pane next to your source notes.
Bring your own model
Only tool-capable models appear in the picker. Turn on web search from the globe icon when the model supports it.
Retrieval starts locally
A local embedding model makes notes searchable by meaning. Only your question and the relevant note content go to your AI provider.
Come back to any answer
History is grouped by date and saved chats keep their references. Click a previous prompt to edit it, or save the whole chat to a note.
