Catch it before it disappears
Capture a thought from anywhere. Let it wait in the Inbox, then decide whether it becomes a note, joins one, or simply gets done.
Write it down without leaving what you're doing
Quick Capture is a small window that stays on top of any app. Save the thought, send it where it belongs, and get back to work.
One shortcut, from any app
Press Control + Option + Space even while another app is focused. Press it again or Esc to dismiss, and macOS returns you to the app you were using.
Send it where it belongs
Capture into the Inbox, append to today's Daily note, or add to a note you pick. Octarine remembers the last destination for each workspace.
Save the clipboard, no window
Double-tap Option (Control on Windows and Linux) to save copied text or an image. A copied web address is stored as a Markdown link.
Keep adding to the last capture
When a previous capture exists, Append to INB-N adds the new text to it instead of creating another file. A title becomes a heading above it.
Just enough context, while it's fresh
Add an optional title, a priority, or a few tags. Or save the body alone and leave every decision for later.
- Priority in a keystroke
- Press Cmd/Ctrl + P to set Urgent through Low, or leave it with no priority.
- Paste anything
- Rich text, links, and supported embedded media come along with the capture.
- Pick the workspace
- With several workspaces open, choose which one receives the capture.
Not everything needs attention now
Captures wait in Active until you're ready. Order them by priority or by when they arrived, snooze what can wait, and let finished ones fold into Done.

Snoozed captures stay in Active with the time left beside them, then come back on their own.

When ordered by Priority, actionable captures come first, then snoozed ones.
Give it a permanent place
A capture can become a normal note, join an existing one, or move into today's Daily note. It stays in Done with its destination recorded, so processing it never erases where it came from.
- Make it a note
- Turn a capture into a full note in the folder you choose once it has grown into something worth keeping.
- Add it to existing context
- Append the body to a note that already owns the idea, then keep working there.
- Let time be the structure
- Send it to today's Daily note when chronology is all the organisation it needs.
One click from the menu bar, plain Markdown on disk
Reach Quick Capture and your newest captures without opening the main window. Every capture is an ordinary file in your workspace.

Open Quick Capture, jump to one of your active captures, or open the Inbox straight from the Octarine icon.
Still ordinary Markdown
The body is normal Markdown. Octarine keeps the triage state in readable YAML frontmatter, so captures sync and back up with your notes.
